A Nigerian navy captain Kola Oguntuga has been recognized by the United States ambassador to Nigeria Honourable W. Stuart Symington.

Captain Oguntuga will take command of Nigerian Navy Ship OLOGBO, a former U.S. Coast Guard Cutter based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria

He was recognized for his exceptional contributions to advancing U.S. – Nigeria relations during his tour as deputy defense attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC.

Later in the month, Oguntuga will take command of Nigerian Navy Ship Ologbo, a former U.S. coast guard cutter based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

He served in the U.S. from January 2014 to March 2017 and only recently returned back to Nigeria.

Vessel Ologbo is a patrol vessel built in 1942 and currently sailing under the flag of Nigeria.

Other vessels that have been received from the United States include the NNS Obula, Nwamba, Kyanwa and the Okpabana which is used to combat maritime crimes such as piracy, oil theft, smuggling, illegal fishing and arms smuggling.
